About me
How I got here
I was in sitting in my office in Hamilton, New Zealand the day after being invited to the a dinner with some of the local Podiatrists. There had always been a small competition at University between the Podiatry and P&O departments. It reminded me of an assignment whilst in 4th year highlighting the difference between the two professions.
I was taken by these people, amazed by the scope of practice and what could be achieved. Sports, Musculoskeletal work, high risk foot, diabetic foot complications, rheumatology, foot orthoses, endorsement… the list goes on. It got me wondering, how could I do this? How could i combine the two to get the best results for the people I was seeing.
I returned to University and loved the chance to study again.
It was an incredible opportunity to be taught and guided by some of the best minds in Podiatry and research. I loved all aspects of the study from general care, dermatology, sports, rehabilitation, surgery, pharmacology to high risk foot and chronic disease management.
I was fortunate to continue working as an Orthotist at Orthotic Specialist Centre during this time with Danny Keogh and Damian Woolley. They enabled me to implement what I was learning at University with the patients I was seeing in practice. I was starting to blend the two professions.
However the urge to develop and learn more took over me again. I went rural to Kilmore and Wallan where I was lucky to get my start as a Podiatrist with Sarah Plummer and Travis Sullivan. Gaining amazing insight into private practice and how to address my soft skills I loved being there. If anyone is fortunate enough to come across these two, they will learn more than they have ever hoped.
During this time I was taken by the opportunity to join Footwork Podiatric Laboratory with Artur Maliszewski. Here i developed more knowledge than I ever could regarding foot orthotics, materials and orthotic design. This time, was more invaluable to me than ever. The attention to detail, the frantic nature of a global orthotics company put in in great stead for what came next. ‘Near enough is never good enough’.
Now I am at a wonderful stage in my career, starting the Podiatry service at Errol Street Physiotherapy in 2019, joining Western United Football Club in 2020 and now with the Women’s program.
